Denture – Kempsey

Dentures are removable prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, and which are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity.

Full Dentures

A full denture replaces all the missing teeth in your mouth. If this procedure was to be completed in one day, this is called an immediate denture. Since the shape of the mouth changes significantly when teeth are removed, the dentures will need to be relined 3 months after it is issued. This will ensure that it will continue to fit well.
Because there are no teeth left, the full dentures use suction or various types of adhesive to remain in position. Alternatively, Dental Implants can also be placed and connected to the denture with clips for a more comfortable, secure method of retention.

Partial Dentures

These are usually worn when there are one or more teeth missing. They can be a cost effective option. This removable prosthetic devices usually clips into place, using clasps on adjacent teeth for support.
As with any kind of prosthesis, dentures can take time to get used to, but after some time you will be confident in the way you look, feel and speak.
It is also important that your dentures, either full or partial are regularly maintained. When you attend your 6 monthly check up exam we will check your false teeth and advise you on any adjustments that may need to be carried out to avoid serious problems. At the same time, feel free to advise us if your removable prosthetic devices are causing you problems or pain at any stage.
