DERMAL FILLER FAQs

Lip Dermal Filler – Dr Nathan Le

1. What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances containing hyaluronic acid, a compound naturally found in the body. Around half of the body’s hyaluronic acid is located in the skin. Lip fillers are a type of dermal filler used to temporarily add volume and shape to the lips.

2. How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

When injected into specific areas, dermal fillers help restore volume under the skin. In the lips, they can enhance shape, definition, and symmetry. The product is gradually broken down by the body over time.

3. What Can Lip Fillers Do?

Lip fillers may assist in:

  • Enhancing the appearance of lip volume

  • Improving lip symmetry and contour

  • Supporting natural lip shape

Outcomes vary between individuals, and a tailored consultation is important to determine the most suitable approach.

4. What Is Involved in the Procedure?

  • Consultation: Dr Le will assess your medical history, goals, and facial structure to determine your suitability for treatment.

  • Treatment: The filler is injected using a fine needle. A local anaesthetic is used to improve comfort during the procedure. Treatment generally takes around 15–30 minutes.

  • Recovery: Some swelling or minor bruising may occur after treatment. These effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few days.

5. How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?

Lip filler results are temporary and typically last between 3 to 12 months, depending on the type of filler used, individual metabolism, and lifestyle factors. Softer fillers tend to feel more natural but may break down faster.

6. Suitability for Treatment

Lip filler treatment is generally suitable for adults in good health. A consultation is necessary to determine whether this procedure is appropriate for you.

Lip fillers are not recommended for individuals who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the filler

  • Have ongoing skin conditions or infections near the treatment area

7. Possible Side Effects

As with any injectable treatment, temporary side effects can occur. These may include:

  • Redness

  • Swelling

  • Tenderness

  • Bruising or itching at the injection site

In most cases, these reactions resolve on their own within a few days. After lip enhancement, swelling may be more noticeable for the first 24–48 hours.
