TMJ Pain

TMJ Pain: many of us suffer from headaches. Did you know that about most tension headaches relate to bad bites or TMJ problems?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jaw bone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw.
TMJ disorder or TMD: can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement and Tension headaches.
The cause of a person’s TMJ disorder is often due to bad occlusion, which is the way your teeth and jaw come together. Your pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, arthritis or jaw injury.
People who have jaw pain tend to clench or grind their teeth, this give rise to more jaw pain and headaches.

Treatment:

Treatment can be quite complex depends on the cause
1.  Orthodontic treatment to improve the jaw relationship and occlusion.  This is the best treatment option but many adults may not prefer due to the fact that it often involve wearing braces.
2.  Head ache treatment: Botox for TMJ is an extremely effective treatment option for patient who suffers chronic TMJ pain and headaches. Pain would disappear within days of injection but only last as long as the duration the Botox which is 3 months. This is way belter than taking pain killer for headaches every 4-6 hourly.
3.  Oral appliance like Occlusal splint: this option is effective provide that the person wear the appliance each and every night.
